Harnessing the power of popular culture, behavioral science and narratives to engage new audiences in climate, nature and health. Discover my work in this space: both in-house and through non-executive roles.

I’ve always loved to engage people in societal topics in innovative, strategic, inspiring and insightful ways. In doing so, I enjoy working with creative, advertising, communications and/or marketing professionals, designers and artists.

For example:

  • Academy & Network for Marketing & Brand teams: I initiated Ahold Delhaize’s first-ever cross-brand, Chief Marketing Officer-led network for impact: Creatives for Change. This included creating and co-facilitating a two-year virtual academy featuring world class speakers and experts.

  • Speech, narrative & thought leadership development: I (co-)created dozens of speeches, thought leadership articles and narratives in support of former Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende (see this story) and DSM CEO Feike Sijbesma. For example, for the G20, New York Climate Week, One Planet Summit, UN Climate Summits and high-level World Bank-IMF Meetings and trade missions.

  • Advocacy: I spearheaded a variety of advocacy initiatives that mobilized hundreds of companies to take climate action. For example, through co-creating the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (see this story) and World Economic Forum Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders (see this story).

  • Stakeholder engagement: I collaborated and engaged with a wide variety of stakeholders in The Netherlands, Europe and globally - ranging from NGOs and campaign organizations, to the public sector. To give some international examples: the United Nations, We Mean Business, the Climate Group, Prince of Wales’ Corporate Leaders Group and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

  • Publications: I published a variety of independent articles and books, both independently and for coalitions. For example, my op-ed on leadership was selected ahead of the 2017 World Economic Forum in Davos.

  • Campaigns: I co-created and strengthened campaigns. For example, the School Rooftop Revolution and the WakaWaka Solar for Syria campaign, connecting beacons of hope such as Kofi Annan and Archbishop Desmond Tutu to a mainstream audience.

  • Music innovation: I re-imagined and rewrote popular songs to bring in a climate narrative. For example, “Price Tag” - Jessie J (which was performed - live, at GreenBiz - to sing the Governor of California on stage about carbon pricing) to “Ironic” - Alanis Morissette (performed by a professional singer for Royal DSM’s bi-annual conference joined by hundreds of key suppliers).
