Picnic’s Sustainability Opportunity

Picnic is a competitive and sustainable e-commerce company with an initial focus on groceries. Founded in 2015, the app-only store has become Europe’s fastest growing online supermarket. Thanks to its innovative technology, smart planning, and a fleet of electric vehicles for last-mile delivery, its operations result in less food waste and fewer (as well as cleaner) food miles.

The company’s entire operation is run in-house: the supply-chain, forecasting, warehouse systems, partnership and fleet strategies. From the back end to the front, Picnic is pioneering development in e-commerce and urban logistics.

For about two months, I was hired by its founders to work full-time with their highly energized teams to help think through Picnic’s initial (integrated) sustainability strategy and communications.
