#CarbonPriceTag Song

Do you remember Jessie J's 2011 hit "Price Tag"? Planet-passionate singers, rappers, (gospel) choirs - anyone, actually - can now record, perform or arrange a new version of this song.

I rewrote the lyrics (yes, including the rap part) of the song on the train to a meeting I attended as part of the steering committee of the World Bank Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition in Paris, in 2017. I got inspired when I was thinking through one of the topics on the meeting’s agenda: how to engage more people in this important topic?

Joseph Robertson at the Citizen’s Climate Lobby and others responded enthusiastically. Most people said: "you are a little bit crazy, but I absolutely love it!"

Shana Rappaport & her sisters of The Seastars from San Francisco got on board, helped fine-tune the lyrics and have been performing it live since: from cathedrals and festivals to climate strikes and (high level) events across the USA. They sung Governor Newsom (California) onto the stage with this song, at the large #VERGE19 conference of GreenBiz in September 2019.

Collaborating with Paulette was such a joy, as her creativity, ingenuity and ability to channel her passion for sustainability into artistic expression is truly unique. The Seastars performed our collaborative song, Carbon Needs a Price Tag, on the mainstage of VERGE 19 to a live audience of thousands of industry and government leaders, ushering California Governor Gavin Newsom on stage. More purposeful creative endeavors from Paulette to come!
